A majority of U.S. teens are taking steps to limit smartphone and social media use

It’s not just parents who are worrying about their children’s device usage. According to a new study released by Pew Research Center this week, U.S. teens are now taking steps to limit themselves from overuse of their phone and its addictive apps, like social media. A majority, 54% of teens, said they spend too much time on their phone, and nearly that many – 52% – said they are trying to limit their phone use in various ways. In addition, 57% say they’re trying to limit social media usage and 58% are trying to limit video games. The fact that older children haven’t gotten a good handle on balanced smartphone usage points to a failure on both parents’ parts and the responsibilities of technology companies to address the addictive nature of our devices. For years, instead of encouraging more moderate use of smartphones, as the tools they’re meant to be, … Continue reading

Get These Tech and Gaming Deals Before They End Soon

Labor Day will likely bring some good laptop deals, but this weekend there are some tech and gaming deals you should give a looksie. We've sorted wheat from the chaff with some help from TechBargains. Our Favorite Deals LG 75-inch Vizio 4K HDR TV for $1,298 (Was $2,498). We like Vizio's full-featured M-Series displays. Don’t try to sugarcoat the horror of Jacksonville

(CNN)There will be a temptation not to watch the graphic videos from Sunday’s shooting in Jacksonville, Florida, that are playing across your TV screen and news feeds. The Madden NFL e-games tournament held at Jacksonville Landing was supposed to be filled with laughter and cheers, not screams. There will be a temptation not to listen to those screams. Mass shooting at Madden video game tournament Our reluctance to hear what happened is not an indication that we don’t want to know about the tragedy. We want to know, we just don’t want to feel. We prefer to tweet prayers and not hear the horror in real time, as fear washes over that riverside park. No, some would rather blame the media for posting such graphic videos. They will call it tasteless. Classless. Unnecessary. Maybe if the video is deemed inappropriate, one can be absolved of the moral obligation to watch … Continue reading
